Scope
Smart home: Somfy and Velux wireless solutions, also without chasing walls
The first level of automation: wireless devices controlled by remote, switch and app. It works in new builds and in minimally invasive retrofits, because it needs power for the devices rather than new cable routes.
Done by us
- Shadingexternal and internal: roller blinds, venetian blinds, awnings, curtains
- Roof windowsopening, and blinds and awnings for roof windows
- Terrace and surroundingspergolas, awnings, lighting
- Gatesgarage and entrance gate drives
- Lighting and heatingwithin the devices supported by the system
- Basic securityhome-grade alarm and cameras
- Controlsremotes, switches, app
Does a smart home work without the internet?
For the basic functions – yes. The TaHoma switch hub has its own memory and clock, so without the internet it still:
- runs time-based scenarios (e.g. raising the blinds every day at 7:00),
- responds to remote controls and switches, including the two programmable buttons on the hub itself,
- lets wind and sun sensors paired directly with a drive protect awnings and blinds.
Without the internet, the following do not work: the TaHoma app (also on the same Wi-Fi network – it connects via Somfy servers), remote access, voice assistants, cloud integrations and scenarios based on the phone’s location or an online weather forecast.
If app control and more complex automations should also work without the internet, the right level is building automation.

Technologies and manufacturers
What do we build on?
We choose the manufacturer for its role in the system – with the reasons below.
| Role | Manufacturer / solution | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Control and app | Somfy TaHoma | Somfy io-homecontrol drives and TaHoma-compatible devices in one app |
| Security | Somfy Protect | alarm, cameras, video door phone and IntelliTAG opening sensors (single-piece, detect attempts to force a window or door). Connected to TaHoma via the Somfy account (cloud); the Home Alarm Advanced control panel controls io and RTS roller shutters directly. |
| Roof windows | Velux | roof windows, blinds and awnings; communicate natively via io-homecontrol (a protocol co-developed by Velux and Somfy) |
| Window hardware and locks | GU | control via GU Controller io (io-homecontrol) |
| Air conditioning | Hitachi (air conditioners) | added in the TaHoma app via io-homecontrol |
| Heating and hot water | Atlantic | electric radiators (with energy consumption metering, scheduling and a pilot wire control interface), Alfea heat pump with the Navilink A59 module, Naia boiler with Navilink 59; io-homecontrol |
| Heating and hot water | Sauter, Thermor | electric radiators and water heaters; io-homecontrol |
Integrations
Other integrations with TaHoma (according to Somfy)
- Zigbeedirectly in TaHoma switch
- Danfoss – current-generation thermostatic radiator valves
- EnOceanrequires an additional module – not supported natively
- Maco – mTRONIC sensor
- Hoppe – SecuSignal handles – show whether a window is closed, open or tilted
- Via the manufacturer’s cloudaccount linking
- Hitachi (heat pumps)
- Philips Hue – smart bulbs
- Ledvance – bulbs, lamps and plugs
- Netatmo – heating devices and sensors
- Sonos – multi-room audio
- Yale – locks, alarms and cameras – controlled from the TaHoma app
- Verisure – security monitoring
- Apple Home – voice assistant
- Google Home – voice assistant
- Amazon Alexa – voice assistant
Before installation we check the compatibility of the specific models.
Cloud integrations require the internet – without it, remote controls, switches, time-based scenarios and io-homecontrol devices still work.

Standards
Which standards do we use?
Open standards where it matters – the system can be extended and serviced years later.

Who does the work
What do we do ourselves and what do we coordinate?
Smart home (Somfy / Velux): done by us. Work requiring other qualifications is done by a partner – we state this for each item.
Done by us
Building automation (Loxone / Ampio / Somfy animeo)
A central, wired system for energy, lighting, climate, access, security, shading and audio. The logic runs locally, also without the internet.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does a smart home work without the internet?
It depends on the level. In building automation (Loxone, Ampio) all logic and the app on the home network run locally in the controller; the internet is needed for remote access and updates. In a smart home based on Somfy TaHoma, time-based scenarios, remote controls, switches and wind and sun sensors work without the internet; the TaHoma app, remote access, voice assistants and cloud integrations require the internet.
